Most peoples impression of Antarctica is that it is a gray,
foreboding place, full of howling winds and bitter cold, and for
most of the year it is. On a sunny summer day, however, the true
beauty of this remote land is revealed.
Photographed at the southern mouth of the Lemere Channel, this
view from Petermann Island looking back at the continent itself
was shot on a spectacularly clear day. The icebergs in the distance
are the size of office buildings!
