Twin Towers Memorial Pictures
Tribute in Light

For the six month anniversary of the attack on New York the "Tribute in Light" was lit. It used 88 spotlights to beam two 50-foot squares of light heavenward in a symbolic reconstruction of the twin towers. The sponsors' intention was that the lights are a tribute to the memory of those who were lost, and are also symbols of the spirit of the great city of New York , and our shared determination to rebuild the great city we love.

These images were photographed during the last 4 days of the display. The "Bridge of Sighs" image showing the beams over the Brooklyn Bridge was shot on the last night as low clouds and drizzle moved into the area. With the skyline of Manhattan forever changed, New Yorkers took to the lights and were very upset the memorial was only lit for 30 days. Usually the lights were turned off each night at 11:00 PM but on the last night they remained lit all night until they faded into the dawn. While there has been some talk of a similar display being created when the final WTC memorial is built, it is unclear, when, if ever, this dramatic gesture will be repeated.

By popular demand the above images are available in print form but are also available for stock photo usages. For those interested in stock photography usage, please note we also have several other views of the memorial such as the Statue of Liberty view and photos shot from street level at the memorial location itself. We will be posting these images shortly.
