Athens and vicinity - Stock Photos

Athens, the capital of Greece is named after the Goddess Pallas Athena. Here in this ancient city one can find relics of ancient history at more than 1200 places. Most famous is the Acropolis, with the Parthenon on top of a holy rock and visible throughout the city center. The ancient places are in sharp contrast with Athens modern life, visual by the congested streets.

Along the Saronic Coast is a spectacular drive to Cape Sounion with its temple of Apollon, where the sunset can be admired. Many of the images are shot with a 4 x 5 view camera and are extremely sharp even in large sizes.

The Parthenon has been under reconstruction for some time and will likely not be free of scaffolding until closer to the 2004 Olympics. In some shots we have digitally removed some of the offending construction equipment. These are labeled on the main image pages as having been digitally altered.
